… A 42-year-old LPN was participating in a medieval group festival at a local park. Dressed in her medieval garb, she was driving back to her house when a young man driving the other way crossed the center line, crashing first into another car then the LPN’s car. The LPN had a congenital condition, a hand deformity called Dupuytren’s Contracture. This condition prevented her fingers from straightening completely. As a result of this crash, she broke her wrist. Her Dupuytren’s Contracture got worse in that hand, preventing her from returning to work. A lawsuit was filed against the young driver. After the case was scheduled for trial, it settled for the young driver’s insurance limits. The LPN and her husband were getting a divorce, in part because of the difficult times they experienced due to this crash. Because she and her husband couldn’t agree on the allocation of the lawsuit proceeds, a hearing was held before a judge who divided up the proceeds.
