Tractor trailer driver compensated for his injuries caused by careless box truck driver when insurer caves in.

… A 39-year-old truck driver was pulling his 18-wheeler tractor trailer into a gravel yard to pick up some aggregate when a box truck traveling behind him slammed into the rear of the trailer without warning and for no apparent reason.  The tractor trailer was pushed forward about 35 feet and the driver struck his head on the steering wheel. The driver just thought he was shaken up, got out of his rig and exchanged information with the other driver.  The box truck was severely damaged, while the tractor trailer had mostly undercarriage damage.  The driver began having severe neck pain. He saw an orthopedic surgeon who put him on light duty. He also saw a pain medicine doctor who injected his neck.  After 18 months on light duty, the driver could not continue and had to leave his job.  A lawsuit was filed against the other driver and his employer.  After the orthopedic doctor’s trial deposition was taken, just on the eve of trial, the other driver’s insurance company caved in and paid a significant settlement to compensate the tractor trailer driver for his harm and inability to drive a truck any more.
