… A 55-year-old cook stopped his car at a stop sign, looked both ways and then proceeded into the intersection.  A speeding van, approaching from the cook’s left on a road without a stop sign, crashed into his car.  The cook fractured three ribs and his hip. … A 47-year-old salesman was driving his SUV across a bridge when a car coming the other way crossed the center line, striking him head on.
